History of our products
Kunststof-Kemi was founded in 1974. In the beginning, small quantities of masterbatch and recycled plastic were produced. The factory was located on the outskirts of Nykøbing Mors. The total area was 900 m2 and the production capacity was based on three smaller extruders.
In 1983, Kunststof-Kemi moved to larger facilities in Nykøbing. The new factory was 4000 m2.
In 1983 Kunststof-Kemi purchased two Baker Perkins extruders. This resulted in better dispersion and higher quality.
In 1983-84 the first Single Pigment Dispersions (SPDs) were developed. These were 30-45% concentrates on PE and EVA basis.
These concentrates later became Ultrabatch. In the coming years, more new Ultrabatch was added and new carrier materials were also introduced. The growing range of well-dispersed Ultrabatch resulted in more consistent masterbatch production. Similarly, the quality of these improved and it became possible to offer masterbatches to customers in the film and fiber industry.
In spring 1984, two more twin-screw extruders were purchased.
In 1993, Kunststof-Kemi was certified according to the ISO 9002 standard for the first time.
The company grew steadily and in the mid-1990s a new administration building, new laboratory facilities and a new production hall exclusively for Ultrabatch production were built. For the new production hall, 7 twin-screw extruders were purchased in Japan.
In 1996, Kunststof-Kemi bought a disused factory nearby. The factory is used as a warehouse for raw materials and finished goods.
In 2003 Kunststof-Kemi was certified according to the ISO 9001:2008 standard.
In 2008, Kunststof-Kemi purchased the first co-extruder, a small 45 mm laboratory extruder. In the following years, more extruders of the co-kneader type were purchased. Today (2014), the total number is 15 extruders of different sizes (45-140mm). For the new acquisitions, a new production hall was built and completed in September 2011. The majority of the co-kneader machines will be used for Ultrabatch production and new product development - including the development of new PVC concentrates.
In 2011, another disused factory was taken over. For the time being, it serves as a warehouse.
In 2016, the total number of machines is 32 extruders and the total area is 32,000 m2.
In spring 2019, a second production hall will be opened. This will bring the total area to 34,000 m2 and the number of machines to 34 extruders.
In the fall of 2022, a new 1,100 m2 warehouse with 2 access ramps was built.
In 2023, a new heating system will be installed. An older gas heating system will be replaced with modern heat pumps that utilize surplus heat from production.
