Kunststof-Kemi was founded in 1974 and started out recycling plastic and producing masterbatch. The factory was situated outside of Nykøbing.
The factory was 900 m2 and the capacity was based on production with 3 extruders.
In 1983 Kunststof-Kemi moved to larger facilities in Nykøbing. The new facilities covered an area of 4000 m2.
In 1983 two Baker Perkins extruders were purchased. This meant better dispersion and higher quality.
In 1983-84 the first well dispersed pigment concentrates, Ultrabatches, were developed on Polyethylene and EVA (30-45%) carrier material.
In the years to come Kunststof-Kemi continued adding new Ultrabatch grades to the range and new carriers were introduced. The growing range of well dispersed organic ultrabatches made masterbatch production more consistent and of a higher quality. It now became possible to offer masterbatches to new clients, for example in the film and fibre industry.
In the spring of 1984 two additional twin screw extruders were purchased.
In 1993 Kunststof-Kemi was certified according to the ISO 9002 standard.
Slowly the company grew larger and in the mid 90's a new administration building and a new production area exclusively for production of Ultrabatch were added.
For the new production facilities 7 new twin screw extruders where purchased in Japan.
In 1996 Kunststof-Kemi bought a closed factory nearby, intended as warehouse and storage of raw materials and finished goods.
In 2003 Kunststof-Kemi was certified according to ISO 9001:2008 standards.
In 2008 Kunststof-Kemi bought the first co-kneader machine. A small 45 mm lab extruder for testing processability and quality. Soon more co-kneaders where purchased, and today (2014) the total is 15 co-kneaders in various sizes ranging from 45-140 mm. To accomodate the new machines a new production area was build. A large part of the new co-kneader machines will be used for Ultrabatch production and development of new product, eg. PVC concentrates.
In 2011 an additional warehouse was bought.
In 2016 the number of machines sums up to a total of 32 extruders, total area is 32000 m2.
In 2019 a new production area is build. The total area is now 34.000 m2 and the number of machines is 34 extruders.
In late 2022 a new warehouse with 1.100 m2 and two access ramps were buildt.
In 2023 a new heating system were installed. Old gas heating were replaced with modern heat pumps that uses excess heat from the production.
